Pre-Treatment Investigations
The first step will be to arrange an appointment with one of our Consultants who will discuss your medical history and provide you with information concerning the treatments available to you.
You will then need to have the following tests:
- Blood Tests for both female and male partners
- Semen Analysis for male partners
Blood tests are carried out on the woman to check hormone levels and Rubella (German Measles) immunity.
Blood tests are carried out on all patients to screen for Hepatitis B and C and HIV.
You can provide results for blood tests carried out elsewhere but these will usually need to have been carried out within the preceding 9 months in order to be of use in any planned treatment at North West Fertility.

The semen analysis is important and is carried out by the seminologist in your treatment Unit. Semen analyses carried out in the other clinics are not necessarily relevant for us which is why we repeat them. Samples may be produced in your treatment Unit but if you prefer, you can produce the sample at home or at your hotel and bring it to us within an hour of its production.
When you have attended for the required tests, you will usually need a further appointment with your consultant to discuss your fertility problem and talk over anything you are concerned about. Consent forms for treatment will be completed and your treatment planned with you.
