Mr James Armatage

James set up a dedicated fertility clinic at Leighton hospital for the rapid assessment and treatment of patients. Following the early success of the clinic and using his extensive experience in the field, he was able to provide a full range of assisted conception treatments including the provision of IVF and ICSI. He is also a director and chairman of Northwest Fertility, one of the largest IVF units in the country.
Mr James Armatage qualified from Liverpool University Medical School in 1985 and was appointed as a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Leighton Hospital in 1997. He was the Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for 5 years before becoming the Divisional Clinical Director for the Women’s, Children’s and Sexual Health Division from 2007 until 2010. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and member of the British Fertility Society.
He has a broad range of clinical interests apart from the management of sub fertility in general gynaecology including recurrent miscarriage, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, pelvic pain, menopause and menstrual dysfunction. In addition, he has extensive experience in transvaginal ultrasound, laparoscopic surgery and endoscopic surgery. He is a renowned expert for endometrial resection.
In December 2011, James left Leighton Hospital and opened Cheshire Fertility and Gynaecology in Nantwich with the aim of providing an outstanding clinical service to all patients in a community setting. As an independent provider, patients have far greater choice regarding their appointment options, continuity of care by an experienced consultant and diagnostic tests (ultrasound, semen analysis and pathology) performed on the same day as their appointment. In addition, any operative interventions will be performed by the same consultant at the local BMI private hospital.
